Accepted into Harvard on a full scholarship, now waiting for a donor

Ahmet Cemal Müftüoğlugil, who sought medical care because of small red spots on his leg, was diagnosed with leukemia on February 13.

Treating at LÖSANTE Hospital, affiliated with LÖSEV, Müftüoğlugil continued his studies despite his illness, graduated from Kabataş Boys' High School, and received a full scholarship admission to Harvard.

After chemotherapy, Müftüoğlugil became ready for a bone‑marrow transplant in June. Two donors who were a perfect match were found in screenings. However, both volunteers withdrew from donating stem cells, preventing the planned transplant.

The Harvard dream has been postponed for now.

The young man who dreamed of studying biology at Harvard had to postpone his trip to the United States because the transplant process was delayed. Nevertheless, Müftüoğlugil, who has not abandoned his education, continues studying from his hospital bed; he is interning remotely at a laboratory conducting AI‑supported biology research at Harvard and learning French.

Describing the disappointment he has experienced, Müftüoğlugil said that learning that the two donors would not donate was a 'great blow' for him, and that he is now waiting for a new donor.

Genç plans to complete his treatment, resume his studies at Harvard, and later return to Turkey to work in AI‑driven biology and biotechnology.
