25 billion packages can be processed per year
Under the Deposit Management System, citizens can transfer the deposit fee for the recyclable packaging they leave at designated collection points into their digital wallets.
A QR‑code‑supported digital tracking infrastructure and return‑automation systems allow the movement of packaging within the system to be tracked.
The Times reported that the infrastructure has an annual processing capacity of roughly 25 billion packages.
The aim is to bring recyclable waste back into the economy and to boost citizen participation in recycling, alongside the system.
1 Billion Dollar Contribution to the Economy
The environmental gains of Turkey's deposit system, as well as its economic impacts, were highlighted.
