A fire in a six‑story apartment building in the Crotona Park East area of the Bronx, New York, caused panic. FDNY crews responded to the blaze at 1773 Vyse Ave. around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Flames Spread to Upper Floors

The fire, classified as a two‑alarm incident, reportedly began on the building’s second floor before spreading to the upper level and corridor. More than 140 firefighters and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the scene.

Two Firefighters, Six People Injured

FDNY said that four people were injured in the blaze. One of the injured was reported to be in serious condition. Two firefighters were also lightly injured during the response.

Residents Fled the Fire

One of the building’s residents said that after noticing the smoke, they and their family exited the building via the fire escape. The resident also said they took their pet dog along and left the building with the necessary belongings.

Cause of the Fire Under Investigation

While the fire was brought under control by the fire brigade’s intervention, an investigation into the cause of the incident was launched. Officials said that an examination of how the fire started is ongoing.
