In New York, a Major Signing: THY and Boeing Shake Hands

Long‑running talks between Turkish Airlines (THY) and U.S. aircraft manufacturer Boeing have concluded. THY finalized a massive order agreement covering up to 150 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The signatures were signed at a ceremony in New York attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Signatures Signed in New York

During the 81st UN General Assembly in the United States, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the signing ceremony of the agreement between THY and Boeing.

At the ceremony held in New York on September 23, THY Board of Directors and Executive Committee Chairman Prof. Dr. Murat Şeker and Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope were also present.

With the agreement, the long‑running 737 MAX negotiations between the two companies were officially concluded.

Up to 150 Aircraft

According to a statement from Boeing, under the agreement, THY placed a firm order for 100 Boeing 737-8 aircraft. The agreement also includes an option for an additional 50 737 MAX aircraft.

Thus the total order size could reach up to 150 aircraft. THY will also have the right to convert part of the orders into the larger 737-10 model of the 737 MAX family.

Boeing announced that the agreement represents the largest single‑aisle aircraft order THY has ever placed with the company.

THY Expands Its Fleet

The new aircraft are expected to boost THY’s capacity on its short‑ and medium‑haul network in particular. The company plans to strengthen operational efficiency and fleet flexibility with the next‑generation planes.

Turkish Airlines Board of Directors and Executive Committee Chairman Murat Şeker said the agreement is an important step taken in line with the company’s growth objectives.

Boeing's spokesperson emphasized that the long‑standing partnership with THY has been further strengthened by the new order.

Separate from last year's Dreamliner order.

The new agreement stands out as a separate order from THY's earlier wide‑body aircraft deal with Boeing.

THY had announced an order for up to 75 Boeing 787 Dreamliners in 2025. With the recent 737 MAX deal, the total number of Boeing aircraft under the two separate packages could reach 225, including options.

The new agreement between THY and Boeing has been recorded as one of the biggest steps in the company's global growth and fleet renewal strategy.
