The incident occurred on September 26 in the Bronx. People nearby, noticing that the 10‑month‑old Jheyler Montero could not breathe, sought help from the NYPD officers Julio Arias and Karolin Abreu Garcia.

Recognizing the severity of the situation, the officers acted swiftly. Officer Julio Arias positioned the baby appropriately and began administering back blows. Officer Karolin Abreu Garcia assisted Arias during the intervention.

After the critical intervention, the baby’s airway obstruction was cleared and Jheyler began breathing again. Those moments were also captured on the officers’ body‑camera footage.
