1889 yılında dünyaya gelen Mercédès Jellinek, otomobillere büyük ilgi duyan Avusturyalı iş insanı Emil Jellinek'in kızıydı. Jellinek, otomobil yarışlarına kızının adından esinlenerek kullandığı "MercedesHe/she was participating under his/her alias.

Thus "Mercedes" name started being used in the automotive world. The brand's success in racing, however, ensured that the name was quickly recognized by a wide audience.

Even the Family's Surname Changed

Emil Jellinek, taking his devotion to his daughter's name even further, officially changed the family surname"Jellinek-Mercedes"changed in this way. A portrait of Mercedes was also displayed at the Paris Motor Show, one of the era's major automotive events.

However, despite her name entering automotive history, Mercedes Jellinek did not reap a substantial financial benefit from this fame.

Her Life Ended in Poverty.

Mercedes Jellinek's life changed significantly in later years. After marrying a baron, Jellinek faced economic hardships following World War I.

According to claims, by 1918, Mercedes Jellinek—whose name was used on the world's most prestigious cars—was living a life so impoverished that she could barely afford food on the streets of Vienna.

In 1929, Jellinek died of bone cancer at the age of only 39.

Today the name 'Mercedes' is known by millions of people around the world. However, the fact that Mercédès Jellinek, who gave the brand its name, was a real person, stands out as one of the least known stories in automotive history.
