A recall decision was made for an oil product sold in supermarkets where Turkish consumers also shop in Germany. In a notice published on 27 August 2026, it was reported that a particular batch of 4‑liter olive pomace oil from the Trilya brand had yielded concerning results in terms of food safety.
Laboratory analyses indicated that the product contained high levels of mineral oil saturated hydrocarbons (MOSH) and mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH). It was announced that these values exceeded the relevant guideline limits by more than ten times.
Only a Specific Batch Was Recalled
It was stated that the recall decision did not cover all of the brand's products, but was limited to a specific production batch.
According to the announcement, the recalled product is the 4‑liter Trilya olive pomace oil. The product's batch number is LS162703, and the recommended use‑by date is 27 March 2027.
It was reported that the product's distribution in Germany was carried out by Altay GmbH.
Offered for Sale in Two States
It was stated that the recalled batch was offered for sale in Germany's Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia states.
Officials asked consumers who had the product at home to check the batch number on the packaging. They urged that products bearing batch number LS162703 not be consumed and be returned to the point of purchase.
What Are MOSH and MOAH?
The MOSH and MOAH detected in the product refer to different groups of mineral oil hydrocarbons.
From a food safety perspective, the MOAH group is closely monitored in particular, because it can contain compounds that damage genetic material and exhibit carcinogenic properties.
Therefore, the detection of high levels of MOAH emerged as one of the key factors leading to the product's recall.
New Regulation on the EU Agenda
Mineral oil hydrocarbons have become one of the key topics in food safety discussions in Europe in recent years.
In the European Union in 2026, regulatory work is underway to set maximum levels for MOAH in various food groups, including plant and animal fats.
The Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry also announced the draft regulation prepared by the European Union to the public in March.
Not Olive Oil, Olive Pomace Oil
The nature of the product subject to the recall decision is also noteworthy.
The product, which bears Turkish labels on its packaging, is listed in official records not as natural or cold‑pressed olive oil, but as olive pomace oil (prina oil).
While Altay GmbH handled the product’s distribution in Germany, the recall notice did not provide any information about the country where the oil was produced.
Officials warned that products bearing batch number LS162703 should not be used, urging consumers to check their products.
