They emerged from the Rögar cover: NYPD took action
In New York, before the United Nations General Assembly, in an area near a hotel where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was expected to stay, two of the three people who emerged from the sewer were detained.
The NYPD detained 26‑year‑old Kevin Rodriguez, who lives in Queens, and 25‑year‑old Samuel Reveron on charges of conspiracy and unlawful entry.
According to police, three people left the area from the sewer cover around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Rodriguez and Reveron were arrested the following day.
Court records show the two suspects denied the charges and were released after a hearing held on Friday morning.
An additional security sweep was conducted in the area.
The NYPD said that similar incidents have occurred in New York, especially after storms, involving people who enter the sewer system to search for valuable items or scrap metal.
However, it was announced that additional sweeps were carried out in cooperation with federal security partners because the incident coincided with the UN General Assembly period and a sensitive area.
Officials also warned that entering sewer systems is illegal and poses serious hazards such as toxic gas and sudden water pressure.

Similar incidents also occurred
In New York, similar incidents have been recorded in recent months where people entered the sewer system through manhole covers in Queens, around Penn Station, and South Brooklyn.
County officials say that due to the dangers in enclosed spaces, the sewer and manhole systems must not be entered at all.
