Risk of power loss while driving! Automotive giant recalled tens of thousands of vehicles
Toyota recalled about 31,000 2026 model RAV4 Plug‑in Hybrid vehicles in the United States due to a risk of power loss while driving. The problem was said to stem from a software fault in the hybrid system's electronic control unit.

According to Toyota's statement dated 7 October, the fault can cause the plug‑in hybrid system to shut down while the vehicle is in motion. In particular, loss of power that may occur at high speeds could increase the risk of an accident.
The recall does not cover all RAV4 models, but only specific 2026 model RAV4 Plug‑in Hybrid vehicles.
Software Update Will Be Provided Free of Charge
Toyota dealers will update the electronic control unit software of affected vehicles at no cost. Owners are expected to receive notifications by December 2026.
Vehicle owners can check using the VIN.
Owners of 2026 model RAV4 Plug‑in Hybrid vehicles can verify whether their cars are subject to the recall using the 17‑digit chassis number.
The chassis number is located in the lower corner on the driver's side of the front windshield or on the vehicle registration. No fee will be charged for the software update covered by the recall.
