At a campaign rally in Port Huron, Michigan, President Donald Trump issued harsh statements about Norway, raising the fact that he did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize and saying he does not want to accept immigrants from Norway.

Ahead of snap elections next week, Trump addressed voters, linking street incidents in France to immigration policies. Trump, who stated he could accept migrants from some countries, took a different stance on Norway.

Trump used the phrase 'They didn't give me the Nobel Prize so I don't want anyone from Norway.'

Strong expressions were also used about Norway.

During the continuation of his speech, Trump used harsh language targeting Norway. Repeating the rhetoric he previously directed at Haiti, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen, Trump claimed Norway has become a 'shithole' country.

However, there is no indication that the Trump administration is preparing a new immigration policy targeting Norwegian citizens.

On the other hand, Norway ranks among the world’s high‑income countries based on its economic indicators. IMF data show that the country is among the top in terms of gross domestic product per capita. Norway’s Sovereign Wealth Fund also announced a profit of 1.75 trillion Norwegian kroner, roughly 184.3 billion dollars, in the first half of 2026.

Representatives of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Norwegian Nobel Committee have yet to respond to requests for comment on the matter.

Trump’s Nobel reaction had also been on the agenda earlier.

Trump had previously voiced his protest against being deemed unworthy of the Nobel Peace Prize. The U.S. president had sharply criticized the prize committee’s choice in a rally held in Syracuse, New York, earlier this month.

Trump, who opposed the awarding of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize to South African lawyer and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay, claimed the decision left an “indelible stain” on Norway.

Trump, who said he did not know Pillay, used the words: "He is a mysterious person. I have never heard of him before, and no one has."

Trump expressed his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize throughout his presidency in various statements. The U.S. president, who claimed to have prevented conflicts between North Korea and South Korea, between Japan and North Korea, and between China and Taiwan, provided no evidence for these claims.

Trump also continued his criticism of Norway by arguing that the Nobel Peace Prize had been permanently discredited by a handful of anti‑democratic radical ideologues.

Nobel Peace Prize Awarded to Navi Pillay

The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to South African lawyer Navanethem “Navi” Pillay. The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced that the 85‑year‑old Pillay was deemed worthy of the prize for his work strengthening international law, promoting peace, and in war‑crime and genocide cases.

Known for his legal struggle in South Africa during the apartheid era, Pillay also served as counsel for figures such as Nelson Mandela. Later, the lawyer who chaired the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda took part in a significant case in which sexual violence was deemed a crime of genocide under certain conditions.

Throughout his career, Pillay held significant positions in international judicial bodies in The Hague and within the United Nations.

Trump's latest statements, while bringing the debate that began over the Nobel Peace Prize back to the forefront, also drew attention to the U.S. President's harsh remarks toward Norway.
