A small detail in the links of X posts drew attention. At the end of the links “sIt is stated that the parameter carries information regarding which device or platform the post link was created from. Different codes are used for Android, iPhone and web browsers.

What do the numbers in the connection mean?

When a link is copied from X, extra parameters are appended to the end of the URL. One of these is “sThe ” character is used as a code indicating the platform from which the link was shared or copied.

The meanings of the most frequently encountered codes are as follows:

s=19:Link copied via the Android app

s=20:Link copied via the web browser

s=46:Link copied via the iPhone app

Is it showing the user or the sharing source?

There's an important detail here. That parameter shows not which device the person who first posted the content used, but which app or platform the link was generated from.

Therefore, at the end of a link, “s=46The presence of the quotation mark does not, on its own, provide conclusive evidence that the person who shared the post uses an iPhone.

These small codes found in X links are part of the technical data that help determine which platforms social media posts are shared from.
