Living in Scotland, Lucy Patto Davidson and Kat Goldin founded their own venture based on the idea of reducing food waste. The two partners decided in 2023 to convert the excess vegetables they had into pickles.

The entrepreneurs, who launched their first products at a Christmas market, were met with unexpected interest in a short time. The complete sell‑out of their first batch encouraged the pair to develop new recipes and increase production.

The idea that initially emerged to make use of surplus vegetables gradually evolved into a commercial venture.

Ordered 2 Tons of Cucumbers Instead of 200 Kilograms.

The event that changed the venture's future occurred in 2024. Davidson and Goldin, who wanted to prepare a new batch of pickles, bought 2,000 kilograms of cucumbers instead of the 200 kilograms they needed due to a mix‑up during the order.

The entrepreneurs, who wanted to prevent the spoilage of the vegetables they had, worked intensively for two weeks and produced a large quantity of pickles.

The pair, who had assumed that the jars they prepared would last about a year, were astonished when the products ran out in just a few weeks.

An unexpected order error made the entrepreneurs realize the demand for their products. Thus, an opportunity arose to scale up production and reach a broader market.

The brand began selling in 400 stores.

The pair officially launched the Goat Rodeo Goods brand in August 2024. Starting with cucumber pickle, the brand gradually expanded its product range with spice blends, flavored salts, and various condiments.

According to information reported by The Times of India, the business began selling in 400 stores across the United Kingdom as of March 2026.

The venture that began to make use of surplus vegetables evolved into a business with a larger distribution network and regular production capacity during the process.

Income Expectation Exceeding 500 Thousand Pounds in 2026

Starting with a small-scale production trial, Goat Rodeo Goods has also carried its growth into the employment sector. As of March 2026, the company, which has seven employees, is expected to generate sales revenue exceeding 500 thousand pounds over the course of the year.

The story of two entrepreneurs who set out to reduce food waste revealed how an unexpected order error, when properly assessed, can turn into a growth opportunity.
