In the United States, $90 for 20,8 Million People: Payment Inquiry Guide
In the United States, one-time $90 payments for eligible Medicare participants have begun to be credited to accounts. About 20,8 million people can benefit.

The distribution process has begun for the one‑time $90 Medicare payments announced by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. The payment, which will benefit millions in the United States, is intended to cover part of Medicare Part B premiums for October.
According to a statement from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the money is slated to be deposited directly around October 8, 2026, for the vast majority of eligible individuals. While some recipients will begin receiving payments immediately, checks sent by mail are expected to arrive in the later days of October.
Payments Are Not Given to Every Worker
The payment, expected to benefit about 20.8 million people, covers certain individuals residing in the United States who are enrolled in the traditional Medicare Part B program. Participants who do not receive premium support through Medicaid and who do not pay an income‑based supplemental Medicare premium are eligible for the payment if they also meet the other required conditions.
Individuals enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans, those receiving premium support through Medicaid, and those paying an income‑based supplemental premium cannot benefit from this program. According to information reported by CBS News, more than 40 million of the roughly 62.9 million people covered under Medicare Part B are excluded from the payment.
How to Receive the $90 Payment?
For the vast majority of eligible individuals, $90 is deposited directly into bank accounts via the Social Security Administration. Those not registered in the direct payment system will receive a check by mail from the U.S. Treasury Department.
Those who want to find out if they are entitled to payment can call the Medicare line at 1‑800‑633‑4227. Those wishing to check the status of the payment can obtain information from the Social Security Administration line at 1‑800‑772‑1213 starting October 15, 2026.
Source of the Payment: Medicare Improvement Fund
The Trump administration is using the roughly $2 billion allocated by Congress to the Medicare Improvement Fund for payments. The administration argues that this program will return a portion of health‑care spending directly to beneficiaries.
However, health‑policy experts point out that the one‑time $90 payment will not permanently cover rising health‑care costs. In 2026, the standard Medicare Part B monthly premium is set at $202.90. Accordingly, the payment covers only a portion of the monthly premium, not the entire amount.
Trump’s Payment Message Arrived Before the Midterm Elections
Trump also brought the application announced on October 2 to the agenda at a rally in San Antonio, Texas, on October 7. At an event seeking support from Republican candidates, he made statements on health expenditures and the administration's policies.
Ahead of the midterm elections scheduled for November, a newly introduced payment program is drawing attention to millions of Medicare beneficiaries at a time when health expenditures are rising. However, the fact that the payment does not cover all retirees and is only available to those meeting certain conditions is significant.
