Princess Diana exhibition in the United States! The iconic 'Travolta dress' returns to the public after years

Nearly 29 years after Princess Diana's death, a comprehensive exhibition chronicling the life, style and humanitarian legacy of the People's Princess is preparing to meet visitors in the United States.

Vanity Fair's coverage showsPrincess Diana: Love Life Legacy — A Life of GivingTitled "The Exhibition", it will open on November 7, 2026, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, California. The exhibition will bring together more than 700 original items belonging to Diana for the first time in this context.

On August 31, 1997, Diana, who died in a traffic accident in the Alma tunnel in Paris, continues to exert her worldwide influence despite the years that have passed. The exhibition will focus not only on the princess's public image but also on her private life, style and philanthropic endeavors.

The exhibition is being organized in partnership with the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute and the Princess Diana Museum. Renae Plant, the founder of the Princess Diana Museum, has gathered together Diana's clothing, jewelry and personal belongings over the years. The collection has hitherto been viewable mainly through digital tours.

Plant, expressing his satisfaction that the collection will physically meet a wide audience for the first time, said he wants Diana's life and legacy to be conveyed more closely to the public.

Diana's Iconic Garments in the Exhibition

The exhibition will include letters penned in Diana's own handwriting, items from her childhood, historical documents, jewelry, and garments etched into memory.

One of the exhibition's standout pieces will be Diana's iconic 'black sheep' sweater worn in 1981. The red sweater, which features a single black sheep among white ones, was designed by Warm & Wonderful founders Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne.

The sweater Diana first wore in June 1981 emerged from a box the designers kept on their roof terrace years later. Sold for $1.14 million at a 2023 auction hosted by Sotheby's, the sweater is among the exhibition's eye-catching pieces.

The shoes Diana wore at her 1981 wedding with Prince Charles will also be displayed for visitors. Designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel and handcrafted by Clive Shilton, the shoes were adorned with 542 buttons and 132 studs. The soles featured a heart motif along with the initials of Diana and Charles.

The tiara the princess opted for, in peach tones by Bellville Sassoon, and the hat signed by John Boyd will also be exhibited.

The dress John Travolta danced in will be on display.

One of the exhibition's most eye‑catching pieces is the midnight blue dress Diana wore at the White House gala in Washington on 9 November 1985.

The former first lady Nancy Reagan's suggestion prompted actor John Travolta to invite Diana to dance at the gala. The pair's dance was captured by many photographers, and Diana's Victor Edelstein‑signed dress later appeared in print "Travolta's dresshas come to be known as

The dress bought by Kensington Palace in 2019 will be on display in the exhibition, loaned by Historic Royal Palaces.

The blue floral dress by Bellville Sassoon, which Diana frequently chose for her meetings with children, will also be among the pieces on display.

The exhibition will stay open until 2027.

Alongside Diana's personal items, selected pieces from the Ronald and Nancy Reagan archives will also be on display. This is intended to explore not only Diana's life and legacy but also the historical and political connections between the United States and the United Kingdom.

The exhibition is scheduled to be open to visitors until 31 May 2027.

The dress intended to be worn after her death will also be on display.

Another dress that was planned to be worn shortly before Diana's death also appears among the exhibition's striking stories.

The black silk dress prepared by designer Jacques Azagury was slated to be worn by Diana at a Disney film gala in September 1997. However, after the princess's death, the dress acquired a different meaning.

When Azagury received the news of Diana's death, he was putting the final touches on the dress. The designer later considered this piece the sixth design to be added to the five dresses that were planned to highlight the princess's final years.
