According to Hopper's 2026 Holiday Travel Index, round‑trip fares on U.S. domestic routes are as follows:
Thanksgiving: average $402, annual increase 31%. Christmas: average $452, annual increase 23%.
Because of the surge in Sunday‑return demand after Thanksgiving, ticket prices can climb above $600. During the Christmas period, hotel rates also rise, with the average nightly cost reaching $197.

In an analysis based on Google Flights data, the following periods stand out for the best prices:
Thanksgiving: About 34 days before the flight. Christmas: About 56 days before the flight. International flights: On average 89 days before. European flights: On average 90 days before.
The day on which the ticket is purchased makes a more limited difference. Booking on a Wednesday saves only about 1.4% on average compared to the most expensive day, Saturday. Connecting flights can be on average 20% cheaper than nonstop options.
Hopper economist Hayley Berg recommends booking holiday travel by the end of October.
Those planning to travel to Turkey around New Year's are also advised to monitor international flight prices early and compare alternative dates.
