Support Like Wealth for Families Who Have Children!

Facing the lowest fertility rate in its history, Singapore is implementing a comprehensive financial support program to encourage having children. Under the new system, the direct support provided to each child from birth to age 17 is expected to reach about 70,000 Singapore dollars.
The Singapore government is preparing for a new era in family policy in response to rapidly falling birth rates. Under the "SG Child Support Package" announced by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, families will receive long‑term financial support for every child born as a Singaporean citizen.
The total fertility rate in the country fell to 0.87 children per woman in 2025, reaching a historic low and prompting the government to take new measures. The rate was 0.97 a year earlier.
According to calculations by the Financial Times, the total value of the new support per child exceeds 55,000 U.S. dollars. According to official data shared by the Singapore government, the total direct financial support, including existing contributions, reaches about 70,000 Singapore dollars.
Birth order will not be considered
One of the most striking features of the new program is that the support will not vary with the child's birth order. Accordingly, families can benefit from the same basic support for their first, second, or subsequent children.
The new package alone includes support of up to 62,000 Singapore dollars per child. This will also include the existing 5,000 Singapore dollar newborn MediSave health grant and the approximately 2,500 Singapore dollar Edusave contribution provided throughout the education period.
Thus, the total value of direct support provided per child will be about 70,000 Singapore dollars.
Payments will be spread over 17 years.
The full amount of support will not be given to families in a single payment. Payments will be made in stages from the child's birth to age 17.
Under the program, a 'Baby Gift' of 10,000 Singapore dollars will be paid for each newborn child. Additionally, after the child turns one year old, a yearly support of 2,000 Singapore dollars will be provided until age 16. The total of these payments will reach 32,000 Singapore dollars.
With a system that will be completed by existing contributions in health and education, the aim is to alleviate the care, education, and health costs parents face while raising children.
Singapore's administration aims to encourage couples who are considering having children and to halt the long‑running decline in fertility in the country with a comprehensive support package.
