Declassified CIA documents stunned: They tried to change the weather
The documents declassified by the CIA reveal that the United States has followed research into weather modification and artificial cloud alteration in the past. The documents contain studies on increasing precipitation, suppressing hail, dispersing fog and clouds, and altering severe storms. However, the documents do not show that the United States currently possesses an 'climate weapon' capable of controlling the weather.

In the publicly released archives of the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), there are numerous studies from past years on weather modification. The documents show that research on changing clouds in the atmosphere through various methods is considered together with the possibilities of military and civilian use.
Rain Enhancement and Hail Suppression Studied
In a document in the CIA archives, among the headings of the weather modification program“rain enhancement”, “cloud and fog dispersal”, “alteration of severe storms”, and “hail suppression”are found.
Another CIA document also discusses research aimed at reducing hail formation through artificial seeding. The studies examined the possibility of affecting the formation processes of ice crystals by adding certain substances to clouds and preventing the growth of hailstones.
The distribution of fog and clouds is also being investigated.
Research has been identified in the records concerning the dispersal of extremely dense, super‑cooled fogs. The potential use of such measures at airports to extend visibility range and improve aircraft landing and take‑off conditions has been considered.
In another CIA report, silver iodide is noted as being used for cloud seeding, with substances such as dry ice or liquid propane also mentioned as having been employed. According to the report, these techniques have been tested in various countries to increase precipitation, fertilize clouds, and disperse fog.
“Climate Weapon” Allegation: Pay Attention
Even though the documents are being interpreted on social media as “the weapon the U.S. introduced into the air to alter the climate,” the content of the CIA records does not directly confirm this claim.
In a CIA report, it is indicated that there is no evidence that any country has been able to control weather on a large scale. The report states that some successes have been achieved under certain small‑scale and limited conditions, but that scientific uncertainty remains regarding the scope and effectiveness of weather control.
Therefore the documents show that the United States has conducted research in the past on atmospheric modification and has assessed the potential for military use of these technologies; however, on their own they do not prove that a weapon controlling the climate on a global scale exists today.
