Pigeon Communication Has Returned!
Those accustomed to WhatsApp will face a test of patience in this app! In the system developed by an American programmer, a message can take up to 22 hours to arrive; moreover, there is no guarantee that the message you send will reach the other party.

An unconventional app has been developed for those accustomed to messages reaching the other party in seconds on smartphones. Carrier Pidge, prepared by American developer Noah Iarrobino, brings communication via pigeon, one of history's oldest methods, into the digital world. However, a message sent through the app can take as long as a real pigeon’s journey to reach the recipient.
The distance determines the message's delivery time.
The app, released on the App Store for iOS devices, calculates the distance between sender and receiver via GPS. When a message is sent, a virtual pigeon takes off.
When determining delivery time, it is assumed that the pigeon can fly at a maximum of 177 kilometres per hour. Consequently, messages sent between nearby people arrive quickly, while waiting times can stretch to hours or even days over thousands of kilometres.
The pigeon’s flight speed in the app is not always the same. Because speed can vary by about 25 percent, a message may be delivered earlier or later than predicted.

The pigeon’s journey can be tracked on a map.
One of Carrier Pidge's standout features is its real‑time tracking system. Users can follow the movement of the virtual pigeon carrying their messages on the map and see how much time remains until it reaches its destination.
Thus, the journey of a pigeon moving across the map replaces the usual 'sent' and 'delivered' notifications found in standard messaging apps.
Your message may never arrive.
The detail that makes the app more realistic is that every journey is not guaranteed to succeed. The virtual pigeon has a 0.2% chance of losing its way or becoming prey to a predator.
In such a case the pigeon fails to reach its destination, and the message the user sent is not delivered to the recipient.
Developed in roughly three weeks, Carrier Pidge draws attention by deliberately slowing communication in the digital age dominated by instant messaging. A message that could be sent in a few seconds may require hours of waiting; moreover, there is no guarantee that the pigeon will complete its journey.
