Severe rainfall in eastern Spain caused a flood. In the Madrigueras district of the city of Albacete, a downpour that began last night led to flash floods in a short time, while rainfall exceeding 200 kilograms per square meter fell in the area.

After the heavy rain, many houses and roads were submerged. According to information from local authorities and gendarmerie officials, a house filled with water up to about 1 meter in height caused the death of a 102‑year‑old woman who was inside.

90 people evacuated.

In the Madrigueras district struck by the flood, the 90 people trapped were evacuated to safe areas by rescue teams.

Officials said that search and rescue operations are continuing in the area. They also reported that work to assess the extent of the damage caused by the flood is ongoing.

Severe rainfall affected not only Albacete but also the regions of Valencia, Catalonia and Castilla‑La Mancha. Flash floods and inundations occurred at many locations.

School Suspension, Transportation Disruption

Due to adverse weather conditions, schools were suspended in some areas of the Valensiya region. As a result, more than 400,000 students were unable to attend school.

Heavy rains also negatively impacted road and rail transport. Some roads were closed for safety reasons, and train services experienced delays.

Officials warned residents in affected areas to exercise caution and avoid traveling unless necessary.
