In Italy, houses are rented for 1 euro a month: There is only one condition.
The town of Ollolai on Italy's Sardinia Island offers the opportunity to live there for just 1 euro a month. However, those who wish to take advantage of this cheap accommodation must transfer their professional knowledge and experience to the town.

An unconventional accommodation program is drawing attention in Italy. The Ollolai Municipality on the island of Sardinia offers professionals from various countries the chance to live in the town in exchange for a symbolic fee through its Work From Ollolai project.
Under the program, participants can stay in suitable housing for a month, paying only 1 euro in rent. In return, they are expected to share their knowledge and experience with the local community.
They will share their knowledge and experience instead of paying rent.
Those accepted into the program are asked to organize public events in their areas of expertise. Participants can give presentations, conduct training sessions, or develop projects that contribute to the town's development.
The municipality aims to expose the local population to diverse professions, digital work methods, and varied cultures through this initiative.
Who can apply?
The program is open to professionals and entrepreneurs working in technology, media, finance, real estate, and architecture.
In addition, artists, writers, musicians, scientists, and academics can also apply. During the selection process, candidates' professional experience and the contributions they can bring to the town are highlighted.
Only 1 Euro Rent for One Month
Those accepted into the program can stay in one- or two-bedroom houses depending on availability. A symbolic 1‑euro rent agreement is signed with homeowners.
The stay is limited to a maximum of one month. Requests to stay longer are evaluated separately.
Food and Transportation Expenses Covered by Participants
The symbolic rent does not cover expenses beyond accommodation. Participants must cover their own meals, bills, deposits, and transportation costs.
The municipality does not provide support for visa and tax procedures either. Therefore, those wishing to join the program must investigate the necessary legal requirements before traveling.
The town is also known for its 1‑Euro house sales.
Ollolai, located within the Blue Zone on the island of Sardinia and noted for its long life expectancy, had previously attracted attention for its 1‑Euro house sales program.
However, the symbolic‑priced house sales in the town and the one‑month rental opportunity offered under Work From Ollolai are carried out as separate initiatives.
