In Centereach, on Long Island in the state of New York, the area around Istanbul Café became tense as federal immigration agents surrounded it. The incident reportedly occurred around 11:45 a.m. on Friday, October 2, near the restaurant on Middle Country Road.

A witness who spoke to ABDPost.com claimed that ICE teams had come to the area to detain an employee of the restaurant. According to the witness, federal agents could not enter the establishment, and local police were then dispatched to the scene. The witness said the employee was escorted out of the premises by police. It was then alleged that ICE officers who arrived later took the individual away. Initial reports stated that no official statement had been released about the employee’s identity or the matter.

A New Statement From a Close Associate

Later, a close associate of the restaurant employee who spoke to ABDPost.com said that the events unfolded differently. According to the associate’s Turkish statement, the detained individual had a large number of unpaid traffic fines, and a warrant had been issued because he failed to attend court hearings. The associate explained that the person was aware of the situation but had not taken the necessary steps regarding the fines, and when police could not reach him, the file was forwarded to immigration authorities, namely ICE.

Claim of Days‑Long Tracking

According to the associate, ICE teams tracked the individual for several days. On the morning of October 2, while he was about to enter the workplace, he was attempted to be seized, and the person in question entered through the restaurant’s back door. In his statement, he noted that federal officers took his photo and later surrounded the establishment. He said the ICE team demanded that the person inside step out and surrender.

He Was Held in the Restroom

According to his close one, the employee was hidden in the restaurant's restroom and stayed there for about 1-1.5 hours. Afterwards, developments occurred and the police were informed. In the statement made by the close one, it was emphasized that the police intervened in the incident and took the person out, but did not hand him over to ICE officials. It was stated that the person is expected to be released on Monday, October 5.
