The Nor'easter expected over the weekend in Massachusetts, a state known for its outdoor weddings in New England, forced couples preparing for their nuptials to change their plans. Alternatives are being prepared for the ceremonies that were slated to take place outdoors due to the possibility of heavy rain and wind.

The Garden Party Dream Went Down in Water

According to CBS News, Katie Anderson and Jesse Lauritsen, who are to be married at Elm Bank in Wellesley, initially planned a garden‑party wedding. However, due to the storm, the couple is looking for ways to move the ceremony indoors, abandoning the outdoor plan.

Generator Preparation Begins: 102‑Person Wedding Moves Indoors

The couple prepared rechargeable lights and generators to guard against possible power outages. Lauritsen said that relatives living nearby own a total of three generators and that he would also secure an additional one.

Wedding organizer Roisin O’Rourke is adapting the 102‑person outdoor wedding planned at Hammond Castle in Gloucester to an indoor setting. Because the venue’s indoor area can hold only 90 people, a new arrangement must be made for the event.

Menu Also Re-Prepared

The wedding's seating arrangement is also being altered due to the storm. A station-style meal service that does not require guests to sit at tables simultaneously will be adopted. The catering company also adapted the menu to the new concept in less than two days.

Wind Can Reach 70 Miles

Due to the expected Nor'easter affecting the Massachusetts coast, winds on Cape Ann, Cape Cod, and the islands are forecast to reach 50 to 70 miles per hour. In other coastal areas of the state, winds of 40-55 miles per hour are expected.

Rain and Flood Risk Present

The storm is expected to drop 1 to 3 inches of rainfall over most of Massachusetts, and in the eastern regions some areas may receive total rainfall of 3 to 6 inches. Coastal areas also face a risk of shoreline flooding on Friday and Saturday nights.

Prepared Despite the Weather Conditions

The organizing teams for couples planning their weddings are stressing the need to make swift decisions based on weather conditions. Anderson, however, said they are focusing on what matters to them, independent of the weather for their wedding.
