Millions Turning Pedals in America for World Championship
The preparations that started in Konya have moved to the world stage thousands of kilometres away! The Para Bicycle National Team, wearing its moon‑star jersey, is turning pedals in the USA for Turkey.
The Turkish Para Cycling National Team has taken to the track in the United States to represent Turkey on the world stage. After training sessions in Konya, the national athletes heading to America are competing in the 2026 UCI Para Road Cycling World Championships held in Huntsville, Alabama.
The World Championships are being held in the United States.
The 2026 UCI Para Road Cycling World Championships, bringing together the world's leading para cyclists, will take place in Huntsville from September 4–7.
The championship’s hub is Cummings Research Park, one of the city’s major technology and research districts, and the event will feature individual time trials, road races, and a mixed-handbike team flag race.
The Turkish Para Cycling National Team is also competing for world titles in various categories, turning the pedal in the United States in its moon-and-star kit.
Preparation spanning from Konya to Alabama
The national team continued its preparations for the World Championship within the framework of the Turkish Cycling Federation's program. Konya became one of the key training centers for para‑cycling national athletes in both camp and track work.
After the preparation phase, the national athletes heading to the United States began competing on the time‑trial course in Huntsville. Road races were also included in the program for the later stages of the championship.
Emine Koçak Leads the National Team
While Emine Koçak takes the chair of the national team delegation in the United States, the athletes are coached by Ahmet Bozdam and Fatih Harmancı. Physiotherapist Bayram Sönmez Ünüvar also serves in the delegation.
The national team also gathered with representatives of the Turkish community in Alabama, where it is based for the championship.
A New Era for Turkey in Para‑Cycling
Turkey's visibility in para cycling at international events has begun to rise in recent years. The National Para Cycling Team took an important step by participating in the 2025 UCI Para Cycling Road World Championships held in Ronse, Belgium.
Following Belgium, this time the national athletes have stepped onto the world stage in the United States, representing Turkey in Huntsville.
The struggle of the national athletes, stretching from the training courses in Konya to the world championship in Alabama, draws attention as a new chapter in the rise of Turkish para cycling on the international stage.
