According to a statement from the Secaucus Police Department, the incident occurred in the afternoon of September 30. Police went to West New York as part of an investigation into an incident reported on September 25. Officials said a retired police officer witnessed violence against a child and reported the incident to the police. The investigation conducted by the Secaucus Police Department's Child Office identified the woman who was said to be the child's caregiver.

The child sustained injuries.

According to Chief Police Officer Dennis Miller, the child was injured during the incident, but the injuries were not serious.

Officials did not disclose the name of the 56‑year‑old woman to protect the victim child's identity. It was reported that the woman lives in West New York.

Facing three separate charges.

The suspect woman was charged with simple assault, endangering the child's welfare, and endangering another person's safety. A warrant for her arrest was issued under the complaint. She was then taken to Hudson County Jail in Kearny.

The investigation was conducted by the Child Office.

The investigation related to the incident was carried out by the Child Office of the Secaucus Police Department.

Police did not disclose the suspect woman's name to the public in order to protect the child's identity. Details regarding the woman's legal status in response to the charges brought against her have not yet been released.
