In New Jersey, a crane overturned onto two houses.

A crane carried by a truck doing tree‑cutting work in River Vale, New Jersey, United States, toppled onto two houses. The incident occurred on Thursday at about 10:20 a.m. on Sunnyhill Terrace. The falling crane’s boom entered the garage of one of the houses, splitting part of the structure in half. The crane also damaged the area where the neighboring house’s bedroom is located. After the incident, emergency crews began work in the area.

It Fell Because of the Underground Tank

Officials from the River Vale Fire Department said that one of the crane’s support legs struck a concrete leak tank located underground and unnoticed by the crew. When the ground lost its bearing capacity, the crane lost balance and toppled.

The Homeowner Escaped with His Cat

Homeowner Dina Demayo said she had called the crew to cut down a rotten tree and was inside the house during the incident. Hearing the crane collapse, Demayo took her cat and left the house. Despite the accident causing serious damage to two homes, no one was injured. According to NBC New York, a cat found in the area was also rescued. Firefighters reported no gas leak at the scene and that there was no power outage.

Is the Damage Covered by Insurance?

Demayo said that the insurance of Downes Tree Service, the company that cut the tree, was covering the damage at both his own house and the neighboring house.

Crane to be Removed by Disassembly

River Vale Fire Department announced that three tow trucks were sent to the scene to secure the overturned truck. Officials said the crane's boom had to be cut in half to be removed from the location.
