The New York Atatürk School, one of the established educational institutions of the Turkish community in New York, has completed its preparations for the new academic year. Operating under the umbrella of the American Turkish Women’s Association, the school has been passing on Turkish language, history, and culture to new generations for 56 years.

In the 2026–2027 academic year, the goal is not only for children to develop their Turkish language skills but also to maintain ties with Turkey and to gain an intimate understanding of Turkish culture.

The school bell will ring on September 19.

The New York Atatürk School’s new academic year will begin on September 19, 2026, and run until June 12, 2027. The fall term will run from September 19 to December 19, 2026, while the spring term will take place from January 2 to June 12, 2027.

The program for students aged 5–14 offers families two different educational options: in‑person and online.

In‑person classes will be held on Saturdays from 10:30 to 14:00 at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Manhattan. Students participating in the online program will likewise attend classes on Saturdays from 09:30 to 11:30.

Cultural Connections Will Be Strengthened Alongside Turkish Education

The school's curriculum will not be limited to Turkish instruction. Students learning Turkish history, culture, and traditions, and strengthening their ties to Turkey are also among the program's key objectives.

New York Atatürk School aims to contribute to the development of students' sense of identity and belonging through qualified teachers, educational materials, and cultural activities.

For students attending in-person classes, Turkish folk dance lessons will also be organized. New York Atatürk School students can benefit from these lessons, which will take place on Saturdays from 14:00 to 15:00, free of charge.

Music lessons have been planned for students receiving online education. Thus, children participating remotely are also expected to encounter cultural activities alongside language instruction.

Bridge to Turkey for Children Growing Up in America

In the new-term announcement shared by Berna Gürdal, President of the American Turkish Women’s Association, it was emphasized that the school has continued to impart the Turkish language, culture, and the principles and values of Atatürk to children for 56 years.

Especially for the new generations growing up in America, preserving Turkish and maintaining cultural ties with Turkey stands out as one of the school’s core missions.

In a call to families, parents who want their children to improve their Turkish, get to know Turkish culture more closely, and strengthen their ties with Turkey while living in America were invited to enroll in the new term.

Sibling Discount Also Applies

During the 2026–2027 term, families are offered both full academic year and semester enrollment options. Different registration alternatives are available for in‑person and online programs.

If two students from the same family enroll, the sibling discount also applies. The discount can only be used when two students from the same family register.

The in-person classes of New York Atatürk School will take place at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, 411 East 76th Street, New York, NY 10021.

Families wishing to enroll for the new term and obtain detailed information about the program can apply through the school's 2026–2027 registration page.
