The autumn chill is intensifying in the northeastern United States. In surrounding areas, including New York and New Jersey, temperatures are expected to fall to zero degrees during weekend nights and early mornings. Officials are urging residents in areas at risk of frost, as well as those growing plants in their gardens, to take precautions.

Frost Risk Expected in Some Areas

The United States National Weather Service (NWS) has warned of a frost danger for the interior regions of New Jersey, the Hudson Valley, Westchester, and parts of Connecticut.

Temperatures approaching zero at night can pose a risk to plants in open areas. Therefore, gardeners are advised to take necessary precautions to protect their delicate plants from the cold.

Weekend Expected to Be Sunny

Despite the cold nights, Saturday and Sunday are generally expected to be sunny in the region. Daytime temperatures are forecast to range between 14 and 18 degrees, depending on the location.

Because the gap between night and day temperatures is pronounced, people heading out early in the morning should heed the weather conditions.

Josephine Storm Pulls Away from the Region

The Josephine storm, which is affecting the Atlantic, is expected to move northeastward and drift away from the region. With the storm’s departure, winds are also expected to ease.

Those planning weekend activities in the region are advised to be prepared for low nighttime temperatures despite the sunny daytime weather.
