In New York, a horrific incident: two young people were trapped under a train.

A 24‑year‑old man and a woman of the same age, both on the subway tracks in New York City, lost their lives when a train struck them. The incident occurred near the Spring Street station in Downtown Manhattan around 3:15 a.m. on Sunday.

Security camera footage showed two people sitting on the tracks. The footage indicated that the youths were looking toward the southbound 4‑number subway train heading toward them. Shortly thereafter, the train struck the pair.

Identities Not Revealed

Police sources said the victims' identities would be released after notifying their families. The male victim was from Sayreville, New Jersey, and the female victim was from the Dayton area of New York State.

Police Launch Investigation

Following the incident, police teams carried out an inspection in the area. Initial reports indicate that while the circumstances of how two individuals reached the tracks were being investigated, there was no finding that the youths were shoved onto the tracks or fell onto them accidentally. The inquiry also examines the possibility of alcohol use prior to the event.
