U.S. soldiers knelt for Xi Jinping
During Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the U.S., the moments when U.S. soldiers cleaned the red carpet with their hands and knees went viral on social media.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, together with his wife Peng Liyuan, arrived in the United States as part of an official visit scheduled for 23-25 September.
Xi and Peng were received by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at Joint Base Andrews Air Force Base near Washington.
Footage recorded before the welcome ceremony became one of the most talked‑about moments of the visit.
Soldiers straightened the red carpet with their hands.
Shortly before Xi Jinping disembarked from the plane, U.S. military personnel were seen cleaning and straightening the red carpet while working on it with their hands and knees. About 12 seconds of footage was widely shared on social media.
During the footage, it was seen that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and some Chinese officials watched the work from the aircraft door.
The welcome ceremony attracted attention
Trump’s reception of Shi during the aircraft landing at Joint Base Andrews stood out as a rare protocol applied to foreign leaders in the United States. The ceremony also featured military flight displays and 21 mortar shell launches.
