Uganda's harsh remark to Turks: 'Collect your men and leave our country'

Uganda Chief of Defence Muhoozi Kainerugaba, through posts on his social media account, this time directly targeted Turkish citizens living in his country. Call to Turkish Citizens to 'Leave the Country'

In recent months, Kainerugaba, who drew criticism for posts aimed at Turkey, this time used harsh language towards Turks living in Uganda.

Turkey's project in Uganda had been cancelled.

It is said that the tension between Turkey and Israel lies behind Kainerugaba's anti‑Turkish statements. The Uganda Chief of Staff, while openly siding with Israel during this process, had earlier said that he would have his father, President Yoweri Museveni, cancel Turkey's projects in Uganda.

One of these initiatives took place in June. The railway tender worth 3.2 billion dollars won by the Turkish company Yapı Merkezi in Uganda was cancelled.

The cancelled project was of strategic importance to Uganda. The agreement signed between Yapı Merkezi and Uganda Railways"East Line Railway"The project aimed to link the capital Kampala to the Kenya border, and from there to the Mombasa Port opening onto the Indian Ocean.

According to information reported by Anadolu Agency, the goal was to reduce the 14‑day train transport time to 24 hours upon completion of the line. The project's groundbreaking ceremony was attended by President Yoweri Museveni, Uganda's Minister of Transport Katumba Wamala, and Turkey's ambassador to Kampala Mehmet Fatih Ak.

Earlier, a $1 billion and marriage condition had been proposed.

Kainerugaba's remarks toward Turkey were not limited to that. The general criticized Turkey's military activities in Somalia in April and argued that Turkey should pay Uganda $1 billion in response.

No official deportation decision has come from Uganda.

Despite Kainerugaba being the Chief of Staff of the Ugandan General Staff and also the son of President Yoweri Museveni, those statements did not lead to a complete severance of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Ugandan authorities have not taken any decision to deport Turkish citizens up to today. Likewise, there is no official decision that diplomatic relations between Turkey and Uganda have been severed.
