In the U.S., the swelling in the eye of a 24‑year‑old young woman revealed a horrific truth!

Grace Grant, a 24‑year‑old graduate student and golfer living in the United States, was alerted in last May by swelling in her eye. Initially, the young woman thought the condition was not serious and that she had only conjunctivitis, and she sought medical attention without delay.

Eye infection was diagnosed.

In Grant's first examination, doctors also concluded that the swelling in her eye was due to an infection. A young woman was prescribed eye drops containing an antibiotic and a steroid.

But the applied treatment did not yield the expected result. As her complaints persisted, Grant decided to go to the family’s home in Bradenton, Florida. The young woman, who sought a new health institution together with her mother, was examined by a different doctor there.

Sent to Neurology

The doctor referred Grant to neurology for a more detailed evaluation. During the examination conducted by neurology, an unforeseen condition was detected.

Grant said that the neurologist, who noted an abnormality in blood flow on the left side of his neck, panicked and sent himself and his mother to the emergency department.

The young woman recounted her experience, saying, 'The neurologist could not adequately sense the blood flow on the left side of my neck. As a result, he panicked and sent me and my mother to the emergency department.'

Tumor Detected in Neck

Tests performed in the emergency department revealed a tumor on the left side of Grant's neck. Because of his young age, doctors' first suspicion was lymphoma.

However, about two weeks later, a PET scan revealed an abnormal image in the pancreas region. Doctors initially considered pancreatic cancer unlikely because Grant was only 24 years old.

Following that, the young woman underwent more extensive examinations at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Biopsies and repeated scans determined that she had a small tumor in her pancreas.

Pancreatic Cancer Diagnosis Made

In the doctors' examinations, the real horror emerged when the tumors were compared. It was determined that the same cancer cells were found in Grant's pancreatic tumor and the one in his neck.

Thus the young woman was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Grant said that what surprised him most during the diagnostic process was not the cancer diagnosis itself, but that the cancer was pancreatic in origin.

"The thing that surprised me the most was not that I had cancer. It was that it was pancreatic cancer."Grant said that the process he experienced was a huge shock for him.

New Drug Brings Hope

The week the young woman was diagnosed, the approval of a new drug by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treating pancreatic cancer became a source of hope for Grant.

Grant's treatment plan includes chemotherapy, as well as radiation therapy and surgery. If the current treatments fail to produce adequate results, the newly approved drug will be considered.

Despite all the challenges she faces, Grant strives to maintain her optimism and has not abandoned her graduate studies. The young woman, who will continue her fashion courses online due to the treatment process, is pursuing her education while simultaneously fighting cancer.
