The U.S. National Weather Service warned about the risk of sudden flooding to about 39 million people due to heavy rainfall expected to affect the eastern part of the country. It was noted that strong downpours could cause flash floods in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Connecticut, and New York.

Measures Increased in New York

The New York City Emergency Management created temporary shelters in the city to counter possible flash floods. Residents living on basement levels were urged to move to higher ground.

Officials are continuing preparation and evacuation work in high‑risk areas before the heavy rains begin. Citizens were asked to closely monitor weather alerts and follow the authorities' instructions.

Flood Risk in 6 States

According to information reported by NBC News, millions of people in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Connecticut, and New York are facing the sudden flood danger.

Experts warned that intense rainfall that could become effective in a short time could pose a danger, especially in low-lying areas and regions where water drainage is difficult. Officials said that residents in areas where a flood warning has been issued should be cautious.
