Last month the average price rose to $5.3715, and the national average, which was $5.7832 on Thursday, reached $5.85 on Friday, breaking the historic peak.

One of the main reasons behind the price increase is the volatility caused by the ongoing war with Iran in global energy markets.

The Strait of Hormuz Pressures Energy Markets

Following the outbreak of war, restrictions on shipments through the Strait of Hormuz tightened fuel supply and pushed crude prices higher.

Brent crude, a key benchmark in the international oil market, was around $70 before the war and rose above $95.

It is said that this rise in oil prices has translated into higher diesel prices through refinery and distribution costs.
