U.S. 17,500-person refugee plan

In the U.S., the Trump administration plans to make the majority of the 17,500 refugees slated for approval in the 2027 fiscal year from white Afrikaners in South Africa. The program is expected to cost the U.S. government about $500 million.

The U.S. Department of State, in a notification sent to Congress for fiscal year 2027, stated that a quota of 17,500 refugees has been planned and that these individuals will be “mostly” from the Afrikaners in South Africa. The fiscal year 2027 will begin in October.

The Trump administration argues that Afrikaners are subjected to race‑based discrimination and violence in South Africa. The Department of State also contended that Afrikaners are at risk due to policies that seize agricultural land, employment and education, and rhetoric that encourages violence.

The South African government, however, rejects the claim that a systematic oppression is being imposed on the white minority. Trump’s statements that Afrikaners are facing a “genocide” threat have also been rejected by some Afrikaners in the country.

The program's cost is 500 million dollars.

During the second term of the Trump administration, the U.S. refugee acceptance program was largely curtailed, while an exceptional policy was implemented for Afrikaners, and thousands of people have been resettled in the country over the past roughly 1.5 years.

Under the new plan, it is projected that resettling Afrikaners in the United States will cost the government about 500 million dollars.

ABD also imposed sanctions on some South African officials who claimed they were discriminating against Africans last week.
