About two hours later, Wolfe delivered her daughter, whom she named Jade. Doctors estimated the baby to be about 32 weeks old and weighing just over 4 pounds.
Rarely seen 'hidden pregnancy'
Doctors described Wolfe's condition as a 'cryptic pregnancy' (hidden pregnancy). This condition occurs when a person does not realize they are pregnant until late in the pregnancy, or in some cases, until labor begins.
Wolfe said that the periods she thought were regular throughout her pregnancy continued, and that she attributed the occasional discomforts she experienced to other causes.
Jade, who was kept in the hospital initially to strengthen her lungs because she was born prematurely, was discharged earlier than expected.
Wolfe noted that when she became a mother for the first time, people around her also supported her with baby diapers, toys, and various necessities.
