Hank from Breaking Bad files for bankruptcy! A debt of $1.8 million has surfaced.
Dean Norris, who portrays Hank Schrader in the globally renowned Breaking Bad series, filed for bankruptcy with his wife to rescue the historic restaurant in California that they own. The filing lists about $1.8 million in debt and $147,810 in assets.

The 63‑year‑old actor Dean Norris, known for playing DEA agent Hank Schrader in the series Breaking Bad, has come to headlines again over financial troubles with his restaurant. Norris and his lawyer wife Bridget filed for bankruptcy to restructure the debts of the historic restaurant they operate in Temecula, California.
According to court documents obtained by Patch, the couple filed under Chapter 11, which allows companies to continue operations in the U.S. while restructuring their debts, through the restaurant's operating company Main Street Eeeatery LLC on September 25.
The file indicated that only $147,810 in assets were available against a debt of approximately $1.8 million.
Largest Debt to Byline Bank
According to a report by The U.S. Sun, the restaurant's largest financial obligation was recorded as a $1.57 million secured debt to Byline Bank. The business also cited the loan structure it described as a “pig‑butt” loan among the reasons for seeking bankruptcy protection.
However, filing under Chapter 11 does not mean the restaurant will close permanently. The process allows the business to continue operations while restructuring its debts.
They Took Over the 99-Year-Old Restaurant in 2022
Dean Norris and his wife Bridget took over a restaurant with nearly a century of history in August 2022, aiming to contribute to the Temecula they have lived in for more than 20 years. The couple turned the establishment into a barbecue restaurant that also offers breakfast service.
The restaurant, opened in 1927 as Mother's Cafe, later adopted the name Swing Inn Cafe after taking on various names over the years. As one of the iconic venues in Temecula’s Old Town, the restaurant also became a destination for fans hoping to see Dean Norris.
Shaken by the News of a Co‑Star’s Death
While battling the restaurant’s financial troubles, Dean Norris was also shaken by the news of RJ Mitte’s death, his co‑star from Breaking Bad. Mitte, who portrayed Walter White Jr., the son of Walter White, was also the nephew of the Hank Schrader whom Norris had given life to.
Norris expressed deep sorrow in a social‑media post, saying he had just learned of the death.
Actor,“Oh my God! I was working, I just learned the news about RJ, my heart shattered.”He expressed his sorrow with those words.
Norris, who said that Mittie's son was not portrayed directly in the series, said that he always protected and looked after the young actor on set. Norris, recalling his co‑star as a very sweet young man, also conveyed his condolences to his family.
