Murat Ağırel Arrested! Latest Status in the Sarıgül Investigation

Journalist Murat Ağırel was detained as part of an investigation into money‑laundering allegations that also involved names from Mustafa Sarıgül’s family. In the investigation, carried out under the coordination of the Istanbul Cumhuriyet Chief Prosecutor’s Office, allegations that large amounts of money were flowing through companies established in Turkey and abroad, that the purpose of investment agreements was being taken outside its intended scope, and that illegal proceeds were being given a legitimate appearance, are being examined.

17 Suspects Were Sent to Court

During the operation, the procedures for the 17 detainees were completed. After health examinations, the suspects taken to court gave their statements to prosecutors. Among them were Murat Ağırel, Ömer Sarıgül and Aylin Kotil, and 15 were sent to the judicial authority for pretrial detention.

According to Euronews' report dated October 19, after the judicial assessment, 15 suspects—including Ağırel and Ömer Sarıgül—were detained. The other two suspects were released under judicial control conditions.

Accusation of treason in Ağırel

Regarding Ağırel, a detention order was issued within the investigation on the charge of “providing assistance without knowing the group.” The allegations in the investigation have not yet become final judicial rulings.

Para Aklama İddiaları Mercek Altında

Soruşturmanın, iki Alman vatandaşının şikâyeti üzerine başlatıldığı bildirildi. Şikâyetçiler, yüksek tutarlı para hareketleri ve ticari işlemlerle ilgili iddialarını yetkililere iletti. Dosyada 80 milyon avroluk sözleşme, 100 milyon avroluk havale, yurt dışına çıkarılması vaat edildiği öne sürülen 1 milyar avroluk fon ve 1,5 milyon avroluk tekne satışı gibi dikkat çeken tutarlar yer alıyor. Bu rakamlar, şikâyette ileri sürülen iddialara dayanıyor.

Soruşturmanın Diğer Boyutu

Mustafa Sarıgül hakkındaki iddiaların ayrıca değerlendirilmek üzere Ankara Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığına gönderileceği daha önce açıklanmıştı. Sarıgül ise iddiaları reddederek konunun ticari bir anlaşmazlık olduğunu savundu.

Ağırel’in daha önce aldığı ev hapsi kararı ise farklı bir soruşturmayla ilgiliydi. Gazeteci, fon krizi hakkındaki açıklamaları nedeniyle yürütülen ayrı dosyada “halkı yanıltıcı bilgiyi alenen yayma” suçlaması kapsamında ev hapsinde bulunuyordu.
