Israel appeal from US politician of Palestinian origin to Trump

Palestinian‑origin Democratic U.S. House Representative Rashida Tlaib criticized the use of U.S.-made weapons in Israel's attacks on Palestinians and called on the Trump administration to halt arms transfers to Israel. Tlaib stressed that Washington's military and financial support to Israel must end.

"Ethnic Cleansing with U.S. Bombs"

Tlaib described Israel's operations in Gaza as "ethnic cleansing" and "genocide" while condemning the use of U.S. weapons in the process. The congresswoman underscored that the resources paid for by American taxpayers should not finance attacks on Palestinians.

Earlier, Tlaib had criticized Washington's unconditional military support by noting that U.S.-made bombs were used in Israel's operations in Gaza. In a 2024 statement, she said that after the U.S. administration provided Israel with billions of dollars in arms support, a ground operation against Rafah had begun.

Wants to Limit Arms Transfers in Congress

Tlaib presented 26 amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act in June 2026. Among her proposals was a weapons embargo provision that would block the sale or transfer of defense materiel to countries meeting certain conditions.

Another proposal from the congressman was titled "No Bombs for Genocide." The change was intended to block the extension of Israel's War Reserves Stock Authority and the further expansion of U.S.-Israel military cooperation.

U.S. Military Aid on the Congress's Agenda

Tlaib's call came at a time when the future of U.S. military aid to Israel was being debated in Washington. According to Reuters, under the current agreement between the U.S. and Israel, Washington has pledged $3.8 billion in annual military aid to Israel, and the arrangement is expected to end in 2028.

Some members in Congress are taking steps to limit military aid to Israel. In July 2026, a proposal to cut military financing for Israel was also brought to the floor of the House of Representatives. Tlaib was among the members who supported the effort.

Tlaib's Proposals Are Part of a Broad Package

Tlaib's policy toward Israel is not limited to a call to halt arms transfers. The congressman led the introduction of a resolution that acknowledges a "genocide" against Palestinians in Gaza in 2025. The resolution urges the U.S. to fulfill its obligations under the Genocide Convention.

In 2026, Tlaib also took a similar stance on Israel's operations in Lebanon, calling for a full arms embargo against Israel and the termination of ABD's support for the war.

Direct Message to the Trump Administration

At the center of Tlaib's statements is a demand to end the military aid the ABD gives to Israel. The congresswoman emphasizes that Washington's continued provision of weapons and funding to Israel contributes to the ongoing attacks on Palestinians.

Tlaib's call also aligns with initiatives undertaken by Democratic members in the ABD Congress who oppose unconditional support for Israel. Nevertheless, Washington's policy to maintain defense ties with Israel continues; the 2027 defense bill adopted by the House of Representatives also contains a provision to expand ABD-İsrail defense technology cooperation.
