Gassal series: a painful coincidence—3 names in 3 seasons...
The Gassal series is in the news again, this time with a painful coincidence spanning three seasons. The fact that Ferdi Tayfur, İlhan Şeşen, and Serhat Kılıç—whose works are voiced or featured in the show—died on different dates has drawn attention.
In the first season of TRT Tabii's drama Gassal, which tackles the theme of death with dark humor, Şahin Kendirci voiced Ferdi Tayfur's song "İçim Yanar". After the first season, Tayfur died at age 79 on 2 January 2025.
In the second season, Bayhan performed İlhan Şeşen's song "Bana Esmeyi Anlat". Şeşen died only two days after the episode aired, on 26 May 2025.
The same situation occurred in the third season.
Serhat Kılıç, who joined the cast in the second season and appeared in the third, voiced the folk song "Dünya Kadar Malın Olsa Ne Fayda" on set. Kılıç died at age 51 on 5 September 2026.
Thus, the death of a name that stood out for its music or acting across all three seasons of Gassal resurfaced as a striking coincidence that blends with the show's death theme.
