In New York, the 343 Heroes of September 11 Were Honored.

On the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, memorial ceremonies continued in New York. The 343 FDNY member who ran into the towers to rescue others and lost his life was honored at a ceremony held at the New York City Fire Museum.

U.S. Post New York Representative Özlem Özgüt Yörekli followed the memorial ceremony held at the New York Fire Museum in Manhattan from the spot and relayed details about the event.

A wreath was laid for 343 firefighters.

After the attack on the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11, 2001, New York firefighters dispatched to the area entered the towers to evacuate and rescue thousands of people. The collapse of the towers claimed the lives of 343 FDNY members.

After 25 years had passed, a memorial was held in front of the “FDNY 343 Memorial” at the New York City Fire Museum for the firefighters who lost their lives. At the ceremony where wreaths were laid, the memory of the firefighters who died in the line of duty on September 11 was revived once again.

The monument in the museum is dedicated to the 343 FDNY members who lost their lives in the attacks. Created in 2002, the monument aims to carry the names and memories of the New York firefighters lost on September 11 to future generations.

September 11's Balance Did Not End That Day

However, for the New York Fire Department, the heavy toll of September 11 was not limited to the 343 people who lost their lives on the day of the attack.

A large number of firefighters who took part in search, rescue and recovery work in the World Trade Center rubble have struggled with serious health problems linked to exposure to toxic substances in the area over the years. In the years that have passed, hundreds of FDNY members have lost their lives due to illnesses related to September 11.

Therefore, the memorials in New York carry a broader meaning, encompassing not only those who died in the towers on the morning of the attack but also those who lost their lives in subsequent years due to the health effects of September 11.

The New York Fire Department Still Didn't Forget After 25 Years
