In Hamburg, Germany, on September 1, an armed attack claimed the lives of two Turkish citizens and injured one Turkish citizen. Following the attack in a business complex on Lagerstrasse Street in the St. Pauli district, police launched a wide‑ranging investigation.

A severely injured person was found in the parking lot.

Following reports that residents heard gunfire in the vicinity, a large number of police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. In their initial examination, the teams found a 47‑year‑old man severely wounded in the complex’s parking lot, having been shot with a firearm.

Despite all interventions by health teams, a 47‑year‑old person could not be saved. In the search conducted in the building, a 33‑year‑old man was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head.

In the German press, allegations emerged that the 33‑year‑old who died by suicide had a weapon nearby or in his possession. However, this information has not yet been officially confirmed by the Hamburg Prosecutor’s Office.

A Turkish citizen was injured.

A 48‑year‑old Turkish citizen was injured after being struck in the head by a bottle during the attack. It was learned that the injured person left the scene on his own and was taken to University Hospital Hamburg UKE, where his life was not in danger.

According to reports in the German press, shortly before the attack a group of eight to ten people, partially masked, entered the business complex. Shortly after entering, gunfire was reported in the area.

Police teams examined the weapons and evidence found at the scene, as well as some vehicles.

Ismail Özen Responds to the Allegations

The boxing club belonging to Universum Boxing, owned by former professional boxer Ismail Özen, is also located in the business complex at Lagerstrasse 11, where the attack took place.

Özen, through his attorney, stated that there was no connection between himself and the attack. Özen said he did not know the individuals who lost their lives and emphasized that the incident did not occur in areas belonging to the companies.

The fact that the same complex was the target of a hand‑bomb attack on the night of June 26, and that a sign insulting Özen was removed by police near Elbbrücken in July, were also among the developments that drew attention within the investigation.

However, police did not share any evidence that linked those incidents to the armed attack on September 1.

Possible Organized Crime Being Investigated

The investigation is being carried out in coordination with the Hamburg Murder Squad (LKA 41), the Organized Crime Unit, and the Hamburg Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The Hamburg Public Prosecutor’s Office stated that evidence indicating a dispute within a criminal organization underlies the incident. However, it was noted that claims that the attack was definitively a “mafia showdown” have not yet been verified.

Police’s efforts to identify the perpetrators of the attack and uncover the true motive behind the incident continue.
