North Korea launches missile toward the Sea of Japan
It was reported that North Korea launched an unidentified missile toward the Sea of Japan (East Sea). While South Korea did not disclose the missile type, Japan said a ballistic missile was suspected.
The Republic of Korea Army Headquarters announced that it had determined North Korea had launched a missile toward the Sea of Japan. No information was given about the missile type.
Japan Coast Guard also reported that it suspected the launched object to be a ballistic missile.
The missile fell into the sea shortly thereafter.

South Korea had also stated on September 12 that North Korea had launched a series of short‑range ballistic missiles toward the Sea of Japan.
