The two passenger aircraft collided while in motion at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in the state of California, USA. In the incident involving aircraft belonging to Delta Air Lines and Air Canada, the wing of one plane touched the tail section of the other. Initial findings indicate that no passengers or crew were injured in the accident.

The Delta aircraft was taxiing.

It was reported that the collision occurred at about 10:30 local time. While the Delta aircraft was taxiing before departure, the Air Canada aircraft was being moved toward the gate by a tug. The contact is said to have taken place at that time.

The wing touched the tail.

According to a statement by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the left wing tip of the Delta aircraft struck the horizontal stabilizer of the Air Canada aircraft. After the contact, passengers on the Delta aircraft reportedly felt a severe jolt and the plane suddenly stopped.

Air Canada aircraft sustained damage.

After the collision, Air Canada’s aircraft sustained serious damage to its right horizontal stabilizer. The plane, which arrived from Toronto to Los Angeles, will be taken out of service until required technical inspections and repairs are completed, the airline said. Current flight records also show that Air Canada has been using wide‑bodied aircraft on its Toronto–Los Angeles flights.

Was not wounded

During the incident, it was reported that none of the passengers and crew aboard the two aircraft were injured. However, because of the collision that occurred on site, some flights experienced delays. Following the incident, technical inspections were initiated on the aircraft.

FAA Launches Investigation

FAA has launched an investigation into the collision at Los Angeles International Airport. Officials are trying to determine the circumstances under which the contact between aircraft occurred during movement. Delays in overall taxi and gate waiting times were also recorded in the airport’s latest operational information following the incident.
