New York and New Jersey Attention: Clocks Will Change on November 1!
The law that will end daylight saving time in the United States has not yet come into force. In New York and New Jersey, clocks will be set back on November 1.

Despite expectations that the U.S. would end the practice of changing clocks twice a year, there was no change in the 2026 calendar. In states that continue daylight saving time, clocks will revert to standard time on Sunday, November 1. According to federal regulation, the change will begin at 02:00 local time and clocks will be set back to 01:00.
Including New York and New Jersey
Residents of New York and New Jersey will also be affected by this change. For both states, the end date of daylight saving time in 2026 has been set to November 1. When the clocks reach 02:00, they will be set back one hour to 01:00. Thus that night the same time zone will be experienced once more.

The law is not yet in effect
The Sunshine Protection Act, which aims to permanently end the clock change, passed the House of Representatives on July 14, 2026. The bill envisions daylight saving time continuing throughout the year. However, passing the House does not mean the law has taken effect. The bill was sent to the Senate on July 15 and referred to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.
Awaiting Senate decision
The bill has not yet been voted on in the Senate. Therefore, the current federal rules remain in effect for 2026. According to the current calendar, the clocks will be set back on November 1. For the bill to become law, it must pass the Senate and then be signed by the president.
2026 Clock Calendar
According to the calendar of the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), daylight saving time in 2026 began on March 8 and will end on November 1. In March, clocks will move forward from 02:00 to 03:00, while in November they will revert from 02:00 back to 01:00.
A New Law Is Needed for the Change
Unless the Sunshine Protection Act becomes law, the existing federal system will continue to be applied. Consequently, in New York, New Jersey, and other states that observe daylight saving time, clocks will change in the fall of 2026. Most of Hawaii and Arizona do not participate in daylight saving time.
