3-Day Alarm in New York and New Jersey

A critical weather warning has been issued for residents in New York and New Jersey. The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) urged citizens to stay alert to the severe weather expected to take effect from Tuesday in the region. In particular, New Jersey faces strong storms, large hail, damaging winds, and the possibility of tornadoes.

U.S. Post New York Representative Özlem Özgüt Yörekli also provided information on the latest weather forecasts and officials' warnings in the area. Yörekli noted that residents in New York and New Jersey should closely monitor weather conditions on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, emphasizing the importance of checking current NWS alerts before heading outdoors.

Critical Warning for New York City and New Jersey

According to the hazardous weather outlook released by the NWS New York office on Tuesday, New York City, northeastern New Jersey, and surrounding areas are expected to experience intermittent strong and severe thunderstorms between the afternoon and early evening. The main hazards of the storms include large hail and powerful winds capable of causing damage.

The NWS forecasts indicate that the highest risk could concentrate around New York City, northeastern New Jersey, Lower Hudson Valley, western Long Island, and southwestern Connecticut. As of Tuesday evening, severe storm monitoring has been activated for the New York City metropolitan area, northeastern New Jersey, and Lower Hudson Valley.

Higher Risk in New Jersey

The assessments from the NWS Philadelphia/Mount Holly office responsible for a larger portion of New Jersey suggest that the danger could be more pronounced across the state.

The NWS stated that severe storms could develop especially in eastern Pennsylvania and most of New Jersey; it also noted the possibility of damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. It reported that the most risky period for Tuesday is particularly in the evening.

In the assessment released by NWS Mount Holly, it was also noted that the possibility of one or two tornadoes forming in some parts of New Jersey on Tuesday evening cannot be entirely ruled out.

The Danger May Not Be Limited to One Day

The impacts of the active weather system in the region are not expected to be confined to Tuesday. The NWS New York office reports that there may be a temporary lull in storm activity on Wednesday, but new showers and thunderstorm waves could reach the area from Wednesday night through Thursday night.

The Mount Holly office also highlighted that the risk of severe storms and local flash floods could increase during the middle of the week, especially between Tuesday and Thursday.

It is noted that if heavy rainfall falls within a short period, flash floods may occur especially in city centers, low‑lying areas, and places where drainage is inadequate.

Hail, Wind, Flash Flood, and Tornado Possibility

According to meteorological officials' assessments, weather conditions over the three‑day period could vary significantly from region to region. In New York City and northeastern New Jersey, the main risks on Tuesday are heavy hail and strong winds, while in broader parts of New Jersey there is also a possibility of local flash floods and isolated tornadoes.

It is especially emphasized that forecasts may change with the development of storms. Therefore, citizens are advised to heed emergency alerts received on their phones, to plan outdoor activities according to the latest forecasts, and to stay in safe, enclosed spaces during storms.
