Susan Sarandon: I'm Losing Roles Because of My Support for Palestine
Oscar-winning actor Susan Sarandon said she continues to lose projects in Hollywood because of her support for Palestine and her statements about the Gaza war.
Oscar-winning American actress Susan Sarandon said in statements made at the 2026 Venice Film Festival that her career in Hollywood had been negatively affected by her support for Palestine and her criticism of Israel's operations in Gaza. Sarandon explained that she was still losing some film roles and that some talent agencies had advised producers not to hire her.

At a press conference held as part of the festival, Sarandon said that she had been excluded from some projects because of her political views and that major Hollywood studios had taken a distance from working with her. The actress added that she had received more support in international cinema circles.
She had split with her agency in 2023.
Sarandon's professional problems in Hollywood had become more visible after her remarks at a pro‑Palestine rally in 2023. United Talent Agency (UTA) had ended its relationship with the actress in November 2023. Sarandon later apologized, saying that the statements she made at the rally had been misunderstood.
She explained how her comments about Gaza affected her career.
The actor said in another statement in February 2026 that after speaking about the war in Gaza, it had become difficult for him to work in television and major Hollywood productions. Sarandon said that during that period, working in Hollywood had become almost impossible for him.
His new film comes from European cinema.
Sarandon appeared in the role in Andrea Pallaoro's film The Echo Chamber at the Venice Film Festival. The actor thanked Pallaoro for deciding to involve him in the project. It was reported that Pallaoro had received warnings from the industry about working with Sarandon.
Political debates continue in Hollywood.
Sarandon's remarks reignited discussions in Hollywood about how political stances on the Israel‑Palestine conflict affect actors' and industry workers' careers. In 2023, alongside Sarandon, actress Melissa Barrera also severed ties with Hollywood companies after her comments on the Israel‑Hamas war.
Sarandon says that despite the professional obstacles he has faced because of his political views, he continues to work in the international film industry and has supportive circles.
