Vecihi Hürkuş's grandson will honor his grandfather with a historic aircraft
Lee Vecihi Maxson, the pilot grandson of aviation pioneer Vecihi Hürkuş, will perform a demonstration flight with a replica of the Vecihi 14 that his grandfather designed and built in 1931 at the SHG Airshow to be held in Eskişehir.
Before the event to be held on 19‑20 September by the Sivrihisar Aviation Club, 65‑year‑old Maxson is continuing his training for the show.
In the show, Maxson will be accompanied by acrobatic pilot Ali İsmet Öztürk, who will fly a replica of Nuri Demirağ’s Nu.D‑36 aircraft. The two pilots performed a wing‑over with replicas of historic aircraft as part of the preparations.
Thus the Vecihi 14 and Nu.D‑36 replicas will come together for the first time in the same show.
Maxson said that flying the aircraft designed by his grandfather was special for him, adding, “After 95 years, being able to fly this plane is truly an incredible feeling. The plane flies beautifully.”
